StoryNight May Close in Its Current Form
Dear StoryNight fans, I am considering closing StoryNight in its current form. The short version is that people did use it, and some readers clearly cared about the idea, but every generated scene costs real money to run. Right now, the revenue does not cover those AI generation costs, so I want feedback before making the final call.
Why I am considering this
StoryNight was built around a simple promise: start inside a visual novel scene, make choices, type what you want to say, and let the story continue around you. That part was exciting to build, and it was encouraging to see readers try it.
The hard part is the cost model. The site depends on AI generation for new story moments, and those costs scale with usage. A free or lightly paid version can look healthy from the outside while still losing money each time people use it heavily.
I do not want to keep a product online in a shape that depends on quietly absorbing costs forever. Before deciding whether to close this version, I want to understand whether there is a paid version readers would actually value.
What I still believe
I still think there is something real in browser-based interactive stories: no app install, a private reading feel, visual novel structure, and enough freedom for readers to steer the scene instead of only tapping preset choices.
The question is not whether the idea is interesting. The question is whether it can become a product where the value is clear enough, the pricing is fair enough, and the generation costs are predictable enough to keep it alive.
What could make it sustainable
A future version might need to be smaller and more focused. It could be a paid-only product, a credit-based product, a limited monthly plan, or a version built around fewer but better scenes.
I am especially interested in what readers would actually pay for: longer memory, better story quality, more control over scenes, specific genres, private saved routes, creator tools, or something else entirely.
Please tell me what you think
If StoryNight was interesting to you, the most useful thing you can do is leave a note below. Tell me what you liked, what did not work, what price would have felt fair, or why you would not have paid.
I will read the responses directly before deciding what to do. If there is a clear path to making StoryNight sustainable without making it worse for readers, this feedback is what will point to it.
Best, The StoryNight founder.

What would make this worth paying for?
If you liked the idea of StoryNight, please tell me what would need to change for a paid version to feel fair before I make a final call.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why not keep StoryNight free?
Because free usage still creates AI generation costs. Without enough paid revenue to cover those costs, keeping the site open indefinitely would not be sustainable.
Is StoryNight definitely closing?
No final decision has been made yet. The feedback form on this page is meant to find out whether readers want a version that can support itself.
Where does my feedback go?
Feedback from this page is saved and emailed directly to the StoryNight owner so it can be reviewed while deciding whether a sustainable version is possible.
